The Sales Manager will operate autonomously, maintain a robust pipeline, and collaborate with technical, product and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery. No direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business development: Identify, qualify, and pursue new opportunities in municipal and industrial potable and wastewater markets, including state Rural Water Associations.
  • Pipeline management: Maintain and report on a healthy sales funnel; forecast revenue and hit individual sales targets.
  • Market analysis: Conduct territory and competitor analysis, identify market trends, and recommend go-to-market strategies.
  • Technical selling: Develop and deliver technical presentations, proposals, and scoping documents demonstrating ROI and compliance with contaminant removal requirements.
  • Solution design coordination: Work with R&D, engineering, and operations to size media vessels and systems, specify media (ion exchange, activated carbon, specialty adsorbents), and ensure constructible solutions.
  • Contract negotiation and closing: Lead commercial negotiations, secure terms, and close sales while protecting company margins.
  • Customer relationship management: Develop and maintain long-term relationships with utilities, engineering firms, consultants, and industrial clients; manage post-sale handoff to project teams.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Align sales strategies with product development, marketing, and supply chain to meet customer and commercial objectives.
  • Travel and customer engagement: Attend site visits; represent Birchtech at industry conferences and regional meetings as needed.

Qualifications & Experience — Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Natural Science, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of sales/business development experience in water treatment or related environmental services (municipal and/or industrial).
  • Experience with providing water treatment solutions for contaminant removal.
  • Proven success closing technical sales and managing a pipeline to meet revenue targets.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills; able to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize, and execute in a remote environment (entrepreneurial mindset).
  • Solid knowledge of contaminant removal approaches and regulatory drivers for potable and wastewater treatment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally up to ~50–60%.

Preferred:

  • 10+ years combined experience in water treatment with demonstrated experience in ion exchange resins, activated carbon, and media vessel sizing/sales.
  • Sales Engineer background or technical sales experience supporting specification, design, and commissioning.
  • Experience selling to U.S. utilities, municipal water districts, or industrial water users.
  • Relationships with municipalities and water treatment plants.
  • Track record of selling filtration chemicals/equipment and working with engineering consultants.
  • Existing relationships with utilities, design engineers, and procurement contacts in target territories.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary + commission structure.
  • Full benefits package.
  • Opportunity to shape commercialization of next-generation contaminant-removal technologies.
